On Friday, October 18th, 2024, The Brain and Sleep Medical Center partnered with Pink for Africa to host a pivotal cocktail event, shedding light on the often-overlooked connection between breast cancer and depression. This enlightening gathering brought together medical experts, survivors, and supporters to raise awareness, share personal experiences, and discuss innovative treatments.
The event aimed to break down stigmas surrounding mental health and breast cancer, encouraging open conversations about the emotional toll of the disease. Depression, a common yet understated companion to breast cancer, affects millions of patients worldwide. It’s crucial to acknowledge the psychological impact of breast cancer diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.
Experts shared valuable insights into the complex relationship between breast cancer and depression, highlighting:
1. The increased risk of depression among breast cancer patients. 2. The impact of treatment side effects on mental health. 3. Coping strategies and support systems.
By fostering a supportive community, the event encouraged attendees to speak openly about their experiences, promoting understanding and empathy.
The collaboration between The Brain and Sleep Medical Center and Pink for Africa demonstrated a commitment to holistic care, addressing the physical and emotional needs of breast cancer patients.
As we continue to navigate the complexities of breast cancer, it’s essential to prioritize mental health, breaking the silence surrounding depression.
Alcoholic Anonymous Meeting
On the 10th June, 2024, we were honored to host students from the School of Public Health, University of Ghana, at our Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. Their observation and engagement with our community will undoubtedly enrich their understanding of substance abuse and addiction.
We believe that sharing our experiences and stories is a powerful tool for healing and growth. We’re grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the education of these future public health professionals.
Thank you to the students and faculty for your interest in our program. We wish you all the best in your studies and future endeavors!

He commended the Brain and Sleep Medical Centre for pioneering the first-ever dedicated helpline initiated by a private medical center to address challenges faced by individuals dealing with mental health issues.
Dr. Ofosu emphasized the importance of mental health awareness, stating that mental health concerns should be a shared concern for everyone, as many people experience various forms of mental health challenges.
